YUMA FOOTHILLS, Ariz. – Dozens of people say their credit card information was stolen after visiting a popular area golf club. Mesa del sol golf course is scrambling to find out where the breach originated. Yuma County Sheriff’s Office reports more than 40 victims have come forward, and that number is expected to grow.

Jim Mitchell is a frequent visitor at the golf club and says his information was used at a local gas station. Mitchell explained many of his friends have fallen victim as well.

Another golfer said, “Two different credit cards were compromised within a couple of weeks of each other.”

Several other victims told Reporter Holly Sweet their information was stolen.

“I looked at my statement, and there was a charge from South Carolina,” Leonard Berube said.

YCSO believes the breach may have happened as far back as last December. Parent company Eagle Golf gained ownership of Mesa Del Sol Golf Club in January. Company reps say they already planned to replace the former owner’s computer system before the breach happened and did so roughly a week ago.

“We have installed a new system that is up to our standards,” Eagle Golf General Council Scott Siddons said.  “The former system was not as cyber secure.”

YCSO officials say they’re looking into whether or not an employee committed the scam. Eagle golf’s it team believes it to be an outside job.

YCSO officials report purchases were made both nationally and internationally using the stolen information.

All the victims we spoke with canceled the compromised cards, and their credit card companies have voided the fraudulent transactions.

Please contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office if you believe to have been a victim of the recent credit card scam at 928-782-9871.
