YUMA, Ariz. – Tax season kicks-off Tuesday and scammers may be after your tax return.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Yuma said more than twelve consumer reports have been reported through-out the state of Arizona, IRS scam calls.

Scammers are calling residents in Yuma and Imperial Counties acting as IRS officials claiming back-taxes are owed and asking for immediate payment over the phone.

Robocalls which are automated or recorded messages and calls coming from Washington D.C. are both red flags according to the BBB.

Some consumers said scammers threatened to sue and arrest them if payment was not made immediately.

Officials said the IRS would never send an email and if you receive an one proceed with caution.
